How to Help
NEK-9 SAR is an IRS-recognized nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We are proud to be unpaid professionals, and to still be able to run a very lean operation. This is because none of our members is compensated for any administrative, training or search time. All of our work is provided FREE to law enforcement, the citizens of our states, and tourists who visit our region.
Our annual budget is in the $8,000 range. In addition to annual fees for such essential services as pagers and dispatch, we have to maintain and replace the cutting-edge technology - computer, communications, and GPS equipment - that supports the handler/K-9 teams and assists the job of organizing searches and making the process more efficient and safer. The bottom line: More lives saved. Your contribution to our general operations is vital to our ability to continue our work.
How is this possible on such a small budget? We can do it because all of our members cover all of their personal expenses (dog care [food, health], outdoor equipment, and travel costs for training and searches). To purchase unit-owned equipment and services used by all of our team members, we depend on donations from local social and charitable organizations, as well as, individuals and grant-making foundations.
